Shading/Highlighting Tutorial

A lot of people have been asking me how I painted the armor! Well, it’s quite easy, but very time-consuming 🙁

First, I spray-painted the base coat using 2 coats of Krylon Iris Blue Satin and 2 coats of Rustoleum Metallic Spray in Cobalt Blue. Then, for highlighting and shading, I used flat brushes to drybush acrylic paints onto the armor.

I wanted a continuous gradient from shadow to highlight, so I used many different layers. The acrylic paints I used were:
A) Silver
B) Ice Blue (metallic blue)
C) Black Nickel (dark gunmetal)
D) Mars Black

From edge to center, I drybrushed layers of:
D -> C -> base coat (nothing) -> B -> A/B Mix -> A

The final result is a subtle gradient, mimicing a more “shiny” and 3-dimensional effect!
